Squad, the developers of the hit steam game Kerbal Space Program, formally part of the early access program, has announced in a blog post that Kerbal Space Program has been acquired by Take-Two interactive, publisher of the hit GTA franchise developed by Rockstar games.

They stated:

“Squad and the current development team is still here and we’re hard at work on KSP and its future updates, but now we are fortunate enough to do so with the help of an experienced publisher like Take-Two, and we couldn’t be more excited and happy to see where our conjoint collaboration will take KSP forward.”

Squad has confirmed that the current development team is still working on updates for the game as well as reassuring the user base that everyone who purchased the game before April 2013 will have free access to any potential DLC and expansions, as Squad promised after a controversy at the time sparked up when people buying the game in early access had though they were getting all content for free including DLC and expansions with the purchase. Squad has also confirmed the Xbox-One and PS4 versions of the game will still be updated in collaboration with Bitworks.

It will be interesting to see what this massive publisher, with games such as GTA and the Civilization franchise under its belt will be able to bring in therms of budget and future development potential for Kerbal Space program seeing the scale some of the publisher’s other games currently have.

We already know a paid expansion is in the works entitled “Making History” set to include a mission editor, a set of historical missions to play along with new game parts and a scoreboard system. More paid content along with free updates and paid expansions may enter the pipeline with this new publisher in the game.
